There is no secret that a rather alarming number of British students their assignment. An article in the Sunday Times (Jones, 2006) claims that up to 10% of all studies level submissions commit some form of plagiarism - the act of copying or someone else working rip. This is a significant amount of scammers, but here's the deal - the majority of 10% did so unintentionally. What has happened, they are not to refer correctly to their sources, and even if it's a tough result, this will be considered plagiarism.
different ways are there to point the sources of your research, but the most important method in the UK, and using a 95% of the universities, the system is Harvard. This is a style that provides value to the author of the information, and the date has been made public. although unfortunately it is not quite so simple - more information on the source is required, and the order it appears in is important. For an idea, refer to the following examples of the most popular types of references:
book
formula: AuthorSurname, initial. (year) title of the book, CityPublished : publisher, S .. sides.
Example: Rowling, JK. (2006) Harry Potter and the philosopher Stone, London: Bloomsbury Publishing, S .. 24-25.
website
formula: Website (year) title of the page [online] Available at: URL [Accessed: date].
Example: BBC News (2009) by Apple iPhone beats Blackberry as smartphone sales increase, [online] Available at: http://news.bbc.co.uk [Accessed: 12 Oct 2010] ,
newspaper
formula: AuthorSurname, Initial. (year) published title of the article, newspaper titles , day and month, S .. sides.
Example: Smith, J. (2008) market crash, as inflation rises, The Guardian, June 7, S .. 45.
What is more, they have alphabetically by author are rated, and also require italic styling in places. It is not easy. However, it is a necessity - Oxford Brookes University has a dedicated team of 14 scientific misconduct officials is investigating the cases of plagiarism by poor or no referencing (Jones, 2006) and automated software like Copy Catch and turn it into even sniff out a missing reference in seconds. If trapped students could face failure or expulsion.
So what is the answer? Fortunately, no extreme memory for those boring formulas, there are websites that can prepare all your reference list in the right styling and format for you - all you need to provide, are the details that even on the source of information are easy to find. There are several feature-rich tools available on the internet, including Neil Toolbox, Scotchbib and CiteThisForMe. All follow the style of Harvard referencing and will generate a properly formatted reference when you enter the appropriate data.
Finally, do not underestimate the importance of a display - your work worth nothing, it seems like a trivial portion at the end of a job but without the mass might be, and do not wait to find this firsthand.
